Today at the library they had the annual book sale. I found a few chapter books for Luke. One is called Red, White and Blue and is the story of how the American flag became a reality. It's kind of an American History primer. At one point it covers the whole Confederate/Civil War portion. It didn't say why there was a secession or the reason for the war but of course my curious future lawyer son (he can argue and catch you on technicalities like a legal eagle), asks me. So I explained the disagreement about slavery. This must have jogged his memory because then he started filling me in on the details of how Lincoln freed the slaves and stood up for them. He was visible shaking with emotion as he told me that they had an "auction" (he meant election) at his school for the "best president" and that "a lot of people voted for Washington because he was the first president and he won, but I voted for Lincoln because he was the nicest!" He was quite disturbed that his fellow school mates didn't value the "niceness" as he did. And he clearly wasn't impressed by anyone just being the "first." I just love this. Having these discussions with him just thrills me beyond any ability to explain.
I'm extravaganza-ed OUT! Holy Crapola. Went to the first store holding this event. All was well. Kids each won a webkinz in a contest and I got a free one with a 10 dollar purchase. Plus a coupon for 3 dollars off one. So I bought one and we got 3 free. Proceed to the next store to meet some friends. It was like everyone in town was there. We waited 45 minutes for the wheel of wow. Incidentally that is longer than any wait we had at Disney land. Get up to the wheel. Luke gets a coupon again. Rachel wins another free webkinz. So we bought 2 today and got 4 free. Yes so now there are 6 new members of our family. It's crazy.

So after that momentous start to our weekend. Tomorrow is filled with T-ball starting at 8:30 with opening ceremonies. Then game in the afternoon. I'm excited. Actually we all are. I think he's team is going to be great. They scrimmaged last night and looked like lil pros. Like the team at the end of last year's season. They already look that good.
Sunday is church, sunday school and then work day at my mom's as she puts alot of dad's tools and stuff up for auction. WE NEED SOMEONE TO BUY THAT HOUSE!
As requested by gunderson bee...
The rules:
1. I have a bruise the size of China on my arm right now. It's pretty (note the sarcasm). Very colorful. I'm trying to convince people I am a heroine addict. ***
2. I worked in a cheese factory 2 college summers. The retail portion and tours of the factory. The worst part was cutting mold off the cheese in the sales coolers. Especially the stinky ones and blue/green cheeses. Yuck yuck yuck!
3. Little things make me happy. If something is organized and clean, it can do WONDERS to making me feel happy. Prime example is my new shelf in the kitchen. My babysitter's husband made it for me. He's a wonderful carpenter. I could not tolerate the mass of wires and cables and cords associated with the phone, answering machine, router, and DSL modem. They were all in a dustball mass and DH did nothing to store them in cupboard as asked. Every day it bothered me. Since Wednesday I've had a perma grin since Mark finished it. He even painted it glossy black for me to match my table. It's booootiful. AND NO WIRES!
4. My husband designed my engagement/wedding ring and it's the most precious piece of jewelry I own. It's a trilliant stone and is symbolic of our beliefs about the 3 strands in a marriage (me, him, God). The reason it's so special is that years before he got it for me I had mentioned how important that concept was to me. And he remembered. I think Listening/Remembering things I say is the most important way to really get close to me. That shows you reallly are interested.
5. My dad used to raise white-tail deer and it was so exciting to see all the babies born every spring. And hold them. And sometimes they would even try to suck on your ear lobe!
6. My absolute favorite candy is Bit O Honey. OOOO MMMMM GGGGG they are yummy!
7. All my cupboards and closets need organizing now. Seriously. I need to have a major garage sale.
8. I wish I could be a college professor except I don't want to go back to get my PhD. I don't like reading text books and my time with my kids is too precious to me. Plus there is no university close enough to do it easily.
There that's 8. I never do these things because there just isn't enough interesting things about me. But there you go. Now who to send this to.....hmmmmm Mello, Missy, Carley, ashley, kathi, kelly, Emjay, Tasha
***Really I had a stress test (that was hell) yesterday.
11 Runs in an inning. The score board wasn't even able to show a double digit inning.
Need I say more?
Now I KNOW we are playing Texas and they are currently struggling big time and are our company in the American league basement. BUT STILL - it was a blast to watch our bats get turned on and maybe see our Tigers get their heads straight and confidence up and get back on track for this season.
Right now the score is 18 - 6.
Oh Happy Days are Here Again.......................
I stayed home today since I woke up sans voice. Today it came and went periodically. I feel like a truck ran over me....every muscle ached. I can't believe I was in the house all day on my own and did not get anything done. I could have organized closets, got rid of too-small clothes for the kids, dusted....there's like a million things. But I could not do a thing.
Let's hope that my voice recovers by tomorrow....hard to teach people to talk without being able to talk.
THat people not call between 8-9 pm? It is when we get the kids to bed. I swear on a stack of Bibles there is RARELY a night that we don't get at least 1 (or 12) phone calls. It's so irritating. DH is about ready to bite the head off the next person to call during that time. The worst offender of late is my uncle. Twice a year he bugs DH until he finds time to go out and de-virus and update his computers. It's so irritating in the first place let alone calling when we are trying to read to kids. Some people DH doesn't mind helping people with their puters because they do stuff for us. Especially with Dad gone my other aunt and uncle have been great about helping out with handy man stuff we used to rely on dad for. But this particular uncle has only even been to our house once in the 5 years we've been here. Since he married this wench of a second wife after his first wonderful wife died. Last fall before they left for Florida he called and wanted DH to do it within like 2 days so they could leave for Florida. Nice - nothing like a timeline. So he's back from his winter in Florida and it's now time for his usual mooching. But I digress.....Even my in-laws are culprits. Last week two nights in a row they called at 8:30 and 2 weeks prior they were here for 5 days so it's NOT LIKE they didn't know that is the time we put the kids down. DH was livid. I always try to think before I call people that I know have small kids. Even when they live in different time zones. I don't get why others can't do us the same favor.
Well, she's not a new author but new to me. Jane Heller. I'm reading Some Nerve and loving it! She's got a ton of other books so I am set with my list for the next few months.
9 reasons to archive
Friday, April 18, 2008 9:55 AM
We hear reports that many users don't archive their email. If you don't regularly click on the "archive" button or never even thought about it, here are some reasons you might want to get in the habit. Archiving just means moving mail out of your inbox and storing it for safekeeping. Your messages will be waiting for you when you click All Mail or search for them.
9. Phone numbers and addresses
You never know when you'll need a phone number someone emailed you or an address that was in a signature.
8. Procrastination
Sometimes
you want to get a message out of your inbox, but you don't want to deal
with organization, and you don't want to trash it.
7. Posterity
Just because you’re not famous now doesn’t mean that in forty years (or fifteen minutes) you won’t want to write your memoir.
6. Winning arguments
“But on May 5, 2005 at 8:43pm EDT you said….”
5. Mailing lists
Do you really need to know what Clintobamccain is doing every day? Auto-archive* their messages until you want to donate again.
4. Birthdays
Search
for “grandma birthday” and voila, find the message you sent her last
April. Aren't you glad you archived instead of deleted?
3. That guy
Remember that guy you thought you’d never need to get in touch with ever again?
2. Because you can
May as well use the free storage space. Plus, clean inbox = clean mind.
1. Fate-tempting is bad. You just never know
Thirty-one
days after you send that message to the Trash and it gets permanently
deleted, you're going to need it. Don't tempt the fates.
On Trading Spaces. Everyone has seen how stupid, crazy and over-the-top she has been. Now it's just a game of how outrageous and annoying and bitchy she can be. And everyone is terrified of her and paranoid and now they just argue with her even when she has decent ideas. I don't want to watch a show that's just about arguing. If I wanted that I'd watch Jerry Springer or whatever. I know conflict gets ratings but NOT for me. Why can't these producers and directors make shows JUST to please me??? LOL I'm much more of a sweet-lovable Frank gal myself.
Every time I take them some where I get tons of requests for the recipe. And the recipe is so simple it always causes a huge discussion and questions because people try to make it more complicated than it is. But anyway they are so delicious. My mouth is watering even though they are still in the oven. My kids LOVE them and it's one of the only ways to get any sort of vegetables in them. Although the sugar in the cake mix kind of defeats the purpose but Oh well. Once in a while it's a treat. I'm taking them to our Bible Study group tonight so I'm betting there will be requests for the recipe. Oh and they are only 1 point on the Weight Watchers plan, I forget what the calorie equivalent is. So without further ado.....(not the parentheses - I am pre-empting the usual questions I get).
1. 1 box of Spice Cake Mix - empty the powder from box into mixing bowl (don't add any eggs/ oil/ water/ anything it says to on the box).
2. 1 small can of pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling - JUST PUMPKIN) - empty into bowl.
3. Mix until smooth.
4. Scoop tablespoon size piles onto cookie sheet at least 1 inch apart.
5. Bake at 350 for about 15-ish minutes or until they bounce back like muffins.
Try it - you'll like it. Off to get mine out of oven.
