I can think of no other chore I hate worse than raking. Especially today. Tomorrow I may not be able to move my arms. So if I don't post tomorrow it's because I am unable to lift my arm to open the laptop. My mom's house (which is for sale btw if any of you feel like moving to Michigan to live in a charming river-front house) is in the woods (read: a bazillion stupid trees which translates to 500 million bajillion bazillion leaves.) This time of year, said leaves (even though we raked and mulched and vacuumed the leaves a hundred times last fall) have been matted down to the grass since they were under the snow. SO it's not just regular raking. It's dig in the grass to liven it up and firmly push the rake down to move the leaves. It's not pretty folks. I can feel my upper back and arm muscles seizing up right now. It's even making it painful to breathe. Plus there were sticks down everywhere. Luckily my young son was eager to earn $3 so he can buy another monster truck and practice his throwing to boot. He picked up sticks for probably an hour and threw them into the gully. And then the sweet heart gave one of his dollars to his sister since Mom paid him $4 and Rachel only $2 (since she hardly did anything) so they could be even and he "only needed $3." (maaan, I love that boy.) So anyway, I'm praying with everything in me that that house sells before fall because I seriously cannot even think about us spending every weekend out there again like we did last fall.
After we got done though we drove up to mom's new property. It just feels so right. I cannot even explain it. I just can't wait for her to have a house there and be all settled. She bought a lot in town (a few blocks from my aunt and sister, and mom's best friends). There was a house there that the garage burned down so they moved the house. The landscaping is all done. The sewer, water, gas, electric lines, and sprinkler system are all in place. There is a 5 foot foundation, basement/crawl space that is beautiful already in place. The garage floor is gorgeous. There is a vinyl deck that is in perfect condition,a nice cement driveway, mature trees, a chain link fence around the back yard, and a large shed. I think it's going to do a lot to allow us to move on from missing dad so much. The house in the woods was his dream from when he raised deer and sat by the river fishing. It's just going to be perfect. I just can't wait for her to be settled there. And the BEST PART. There are only 2 leave producing trees in her yard. 3 evergreens and a line of cedar trees by the fence but only 2 (trust me - we counted them) that will drop any leaves. And they're not the HUGE HUGE ones like at her house now! If there had been more I think there would be a chainsaw in my future.
